Business rates calculation
How does the business rates 2010 revaluation affect my business rates?
Your business rates bill may increase, decrease or stay the same as a result of the revaluation, depending on how the rental value of your commercial property relates to national averages. For those most affected by the revaluation, a business rates transitional relief scheme will limit significant changes to business rates bills, phasing them in over time.
Your local authority will calculate your business rates bill using the new rateable value provided by the Valuation Office (VOA). If you are eligible for any discounts or reliefs on your bill, your local authority will also apply these but you may need to register for some of them, such as small business rate relief.
We can advise whether an appeal should be submitted by checking that the assessment is accurate and representative of the market.
Responding to a business rates 'request for information'
You may have received or will receive a ‘request for information’ from the VOA regarding your business premises. We can assist in the completion of this information or complete it on your behalf should you instruct us to advise you on your rating liability.
